The latest information we have is that the bells are now due to be returned to St James on Wednesday 6th December after the 10am service.
The church will then be open for viewing of the bells, they will need to be blessed before they are rehung in the tower. We will update Facebook and this this page with details
We are pleased to report that the bells are coming back to St James this week. For those of you who don't know, 6 of the original 8 bells have been refurbished and retuned and 2 new ones have been cast at Taylors Bell Foundary Loughborough.
The timetable is as follows:
Tuesday 28th | The 8 Bells will be brought back in to church and will be available to view from 2pm - 9pm CANCELLED |
Wednesday 29th | The bells will be blessed during the service of Holy Communion at 10am |
A new frame will be installed in the clock room of the tower which is lower than the existing bell chamber. A false ceiling is being installed to reduce the volume of the bells in the ringing chamber. The bells will then be raised into their new frame | |
January (date to be confirmed) | The Bells will be dedicated after which they can be rung for services |
Come along on Tuesday afternoon/evening to see the bells, once they are back in the tower they will not viewed at ground level again, the last time this happened was before they went away and previously almost 100 years.
